 HANSANG is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information. We want to share with you the information we gather when you visit HANSANG website, its affiliate websites or any of its social media, how we use that information and the safeguards we have in place for your protection.


What Information Do We Collect?


Your Use of Our Site:  When you visit our website, we collect information related to your visit by using cookies. When you visit our website, we collect information about the way you use our website. This includes your Internet Protocol (IP) address, your domain name, internet sites that linked you to our website, the browser you use and the pages that you view while visiting our website. This information helps us determine what kind of information is most useful to our website visitors.


Cookies are small data files that are transferred to your computer through your Web browser. Cookies are used by most websites.  We may use cookies, clear gifs, and log file information to: a) store information so that you will not have to re-enter it during subsequent visits; b) provide personalized content on our website and to provide targeted advertising on other sites; c) monitor effectiveness of marketing campaigns; d) record site analytics such as total number of visitors, pages viewed, etc. and e) track your entries, submissions and communications.  Certain features of our website require cookies in order to function properly.  Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. Some of our website features and services may not function properly if you set your browser to refuse cookies.


Accounts:  In addition, there are times when we may require or request that you provide personally identifiable information (“Personal Information”) and/or create an account in order to access certain services, register for events and make purchases. When you create an account with us, we collect your user name/ID and password information from you.  Personal Information, includes without limitation, your name, address, email address, telephone number, and other information which identifies you as a specific individual. We use this information to verify a user’s identity in order to prevent unauthorized access to users’ Personal Information.  For this Privacy Policy, the definition of “Personal Information” is the definition under the state, country, or other law applicable to the person whose data is collected.  For California residents only, “Personal Information” shall have the definition as set forth in the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”).  Please see the section below entitled “Privacy Notice for California Residents” for more information.  


Purchases:  When you purchase events or subscriptions from us, the details of that transaction are collected and maintained using a PCI-compliant method that stores your card information as tokens. This means that we replace your credit card number in our system with unique identification symbols that retain the essential information about the data but protect the security.


Email Addresses & Mailing Lists:  We collect and use the email addresses and mailing addresses of registrants and others for the purpose of communicating with those who are interested in the mission and offerings of our event,  including, but not limited to, communications from our association-related business partners. In addition, we collect email and mailing addresses in connection with the registration for and attendance at conferences, webinars and other events, subscriptions, publications, the purchase of products and services, and in other circumstances. You may choose to opt out of receiving communication about the services and offerings of HANSANG. This option is featured at the bottom of each electronic communication.


Sharing Your Information:  We may or do disclose Personal Information to the following types of third parties, and for one or more the following purposes: 


Legal and compliance consultants, such as external counsel, external auditors, or tax consultants 

Payment solution providers for the secure processing of payments you provide to us

Technology providers who assist in the development and management of our Site

HANSANG affiliates, including Overseas Koreans Foundation and Korean American Chamber of Commerce of USA for event data analytics, event planning and logistics.  

We do not disclose or share your Personal Information with any third parties for which we receive any monetary or other valuable consideration. In other words, we do not sell your Personal Information, period. 


Social Media Platforms:  We may have a presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Your participation with the services provided on social media platforms is voluntary. If you login to such services through an account you have with a third-party social media platform, we may receive additional information from that other source such as your username, stated location, date of birth, and interactions you have had on that third party social media platform. The personal information we may have access to would vary by social media platform and is controlled by privacy settings on that platform and your choices. Your use of services on third party social media platforms are governed by the privacy statement and other terms of use for that third party social media platform, until such information is shared with and collected by us, and then such information is also subject to this Privacy Policy.


Security:  We have security measures in place to protect against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, or alteration of information under our control. These security measures include using a firewall to prevent unauthorized access to our systems and maintaining registration information on a server inaccessible to the public. Although we exercise reasonable care in providing secure transmission of information between your computer and our servers, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to us over the Internet and accepts no liability for any unintentional disclosure.


Children’s Privacy


The HANSANG website is not intended for children under 18 years of age. HANSANG does not knowingly collect personal information of children. This website and products and/or services of HANSANG are not intended for or directed to children. 


Individuals Under the Age of 16


As noted above, we do not knowingly collect, solicit or maintain Personal Information from anyone under the age of 16 or knowingly allow such persons to register for our events, services, and/or products unless parental or guardian consent is first obtained.  If you are under 16, please do not send any Personal Information about yourself (such as your name, address, telephone number, or email address) to us.  No one under age 16 should provide any Personal Information to us with respect to our events, services, and/or products without the consent of a parent/guardian and for the sole purpose our website.  In the event that we learn that we have collected Personal Information from a child under the age of 16 without verification of parental/guardian consent, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to delete that information from our database.  Please contact us if you have any concerns.


California residents under 16 years of age may have additional rights regarding the collection and sale of their personal information.  Please see the section below entitled “Privacy Notice for California Residents” for more information.


 Links to Other Sites

This website may include links to third-party sites whose privacy practices may be different than that of HANSANG. We suggest that you consult the privacy policy of other sites before submitting any personal information on such sites.


 Changes to Privacy Policy

We may modify this privacy policy at any time, and any change will be effective immediately upon posting of the modified privacy policy. You agree to review the privacy policy periodically to be aware of any such changes. Your continued access or use of this website shall be deemed your acceptance of the privacy policy at all times.  


 Terms and Conditions of Purchases


Once a program or event registration has been secured, name on the account cannot be changed and a refund is prohibited unless otherwise stated on the program or event registration page. This is especially important for businesses that might have an assistant create an account for a fellow employee. Be sure to have the correct name on the account from the beginning to avoid having to pay for a second registration. 



Payment: All payments are due upon registration. If a payment is not received or payment method is declined, the buyer forfeits the ability to access the events provided by HANGSANG. 


Refund Policy: Unless otherwise specified in a particular event, fees for subscriptions, contributions, services, webinars, seminars, conferences and other HANSANG related are not returnable and refunds are not permitted.


Privacy Notice for California Residents


The following section applies only to California residents. 


California Online Privacy Protection Act (“CalOPPA”; Calif. Bus. & Prof. Code § 22575-22578)


CalOPPA applies only to companies which collect Personal Information of California residents.


Effective Date:  February 1, 2023


How We Respond to Do Not Track Signals.


CalOPPA requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser Do Not Track (DNT) signals. Because there currently isn’t an industry or legal standard recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we don’t respond to them at this time. We await the result of work by the privacy community and industry to determine when such a response is appropriate and what form it should take.


Visitors can visit our Site anonymously by adjusting the settings in your browser.


California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”): If you are a California resident (occasionally referred to herein as “Consumer”), California law provides you with additional rights regarding our use of your Personal Information.


California residents have the right to (a) access a copy of their Personal Information held by us, (b) request deletion of their Personal Information held by us, and (c) opt-out of the sale of their Personal Information. These rights can be exercised by completing and submitting a request in writing. 


The categories of your Personal Information we collect are listed above in the section entitled “What Information Do We Collect.” The purposes for which the categories of Personal Information are or may be used is described above in the section entitled “What Information Do We Collect” and in other sections of this Privacy Policy.


Right To Access to Specific Information


You have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about our collection and use of your Personal Information over the past 12 months. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable request in writing, we will disclose to you:

The categories of Personal Information we collected about you.

The categories of sources for the Personal Information we collected about you.

Our business or commercial purpose for collecting that Personal Information. 

The categories of third parties with whom we share that Personal Information. 

The specific pieces of Personal Information we collected about you (also called a data portability request).

If we disclosed your Personal Information for a business purpose, a list disclosing disclosures for a business purpose, identifying the Personal Information categories that each category of recipient obtained.


Deletion Request Right

You have the right to request that we delete any of your Personal Information that we collected from you and retained, subject to certain exceptions. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable Consumer request, we will delete (and direct our service providers to delete) your Personal Information from our records, unless an exception applies (as described below).


As permitted by CCPA we may delete your Personal Information by (a) permanently and completely erasing the Personal Information on our existing systems with the exception of archived or back-up systems; (b) deidentifying the Personal Information; or, (c) aggregating the Personal Information. 


We may deny your deletion request if retaining the information is necessary for us or our Service Provider(s) to:


Complete the transaction for which we collected the Personal Information, provide a good or service that you requested, take actions reasonably anticipated within the context of our ongoing business relationship with you, or otherwise perform our contract with you.

Detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, or prosecute those responsible for such activities.

Debug products to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality.

Exercise free speech, ensure the right of another consumer to exercise their free speech rights, or exercise another right provided for by law.

Comply with the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Cal. Penal Code § 1546 et. seq.).

Enable solely internal uses that are reasonably aligned with consumer expectations based on your relationship with us. 

Comply with a legal, regulatory or law enforcement obligation. 

Make other internal and lawful uses of that information that are compatible with the context in which you provided it.


Exercising Access, Data Portability, and Deletion Rights


To exercise the access, data portability, and deletion rights described above, please submit a verifiable Consumer request to us (see the contact information below). Only you, or a person registered with the California Secretary of State that you authorize to act on your behalf, may make a verifiable Consumer request related to your Personal Information. You may also make a verifiable Consumer request on behalf of your minor child. You may only make a verifiable Consumer request for access or data portability twice within a 12-month period. The verifiable Consumer request must:


Provide sufficient information that allows us to reasonably verify you are the person about whom we collected Personal Information or an authorized representative; and,


Describe your request with sufficient detail that allows us to properly understand, evaluate, and respond to it.


We cannot respond to your request or provide you with Personal Information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the Personal Information relates to you. Making a verifiable Consumer request does not require you to create an account with us. We will only use Personal Information provided in a verifiable Consumer request to verify the requestor’s identity or authority to make the request.


Verification Process


Email Verification Method: Upon receiving a data access or deletion request from you we will send an email to you at the email address we have for you on file. The email will ask you to respond to verify you as the Consumer making the request. Upon receipt of your verification, we will match your information to that which is in our file. Upon verification of your identity we will proceed to process your request (subject to the exceptions stated above).


Response Timing and Format

We will confirm receipt of your request within ten (10) days of receiving it. We will respond to a verifiable Consumer request within forty-five (45) days of its receipt. If we require more time (up to an additional forty-five (45) days), we will inform you of the reason and extension period in writing.


If you have an account with us, we will deliver our written response to that account. If you do not have an account with us, we will deliver our written response by mail or electronically, at your option.


Any disclosures we provide will only cover the 12-month period preceding the verifiable Consumer request’s receipt. The response we provide will also explain the reasons we cannot comply with a request, if applicable. For data portability requests, we will select a format to provide your Personal Information that is readily useable and should allow you to transmit the information from one entity to another entity without hindrance.


We do not charge a fee to process or respond to your verifiable Consumer request unless it is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded. If we determine that the request warrants a fee, we will tell you why we made that decision and provide you with a cost estimate before completing your request.


Please note that this right does not apply to business-to-business customers, employment applicants, or independent contractors to us, or if the disclosure of Personal Information is for purposes consistent with the California resident’s reasonable expectations, when considering the

submission’s circumstances.


Non-Discrimination

We will not discriminate against you simply for your exercising any of your CCPA rights. Unless permitted by the CCPA, we will not:


Deny you goods or services;

Charge you different prices or rates for goods or services, including by refusing to grant discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties;

Provide you a different level or quality of goods or services; or,

Suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for goods or services or a different level or quality of goods or services.

By providing us with your email address (including by “following,” “liking,” linking your account to our service or other services, etc., on a third party website or network), you consent to our using the email address to send you service-related notices by email, including any notices required by law, in lieu of communication by postal mail. You also agree that we may send you notifications of activity regarding the Site to the email address you give us, in accordance with any applicable privacy settings. We may use your email address to send you other messages or content, such as, but not limited to, newsletters, additions or changes to features of the service, or special offers. If you do not want to receive such email messages, you may opt out by emailing us your opt-out request. Opting out may prevent you from receiving email messages regarding updates, improvements, special features, announcements, or offers. You may not opt out of service-related emails.

You can add, update, or delete information as explained above. When you update information, however, we may maintain a copy of the unrevised information in our records. You may request deletion of your account by emailing us. It is your responsibility to maintain your current email address with us.
